The silly season is upon us and with it comes my favourite things; good food, champagne, parties, presents, more food...
So this December we have decided to walk 4 kilometres a day, every day, in December. That's 2.5 miles a day for those of you in the Northern Hemisphere!
That will be 124 kilometres in 31 days. That's the equivalent to walking from Melbourne to San Remo and that thought should help you feel good about enjoying your food and drink this Christmas!
We were discussing whether we will have to complete a minimum of four kilometres every day or complete 28kms a week in whatever way you choose e.g. 8kms one day, no walk the following day. With possible work and weather factors to consider we have gone for the later, but the former is probably a bigger challenge!
I'll be posting some pictures from my walks on instagram to help keep me accountable and to keep a record of my distances covered. I'll be using #4ksaday and I'd love you to join me.
Week 1 Tip:
Download a podcast.
I have recently started to download podcasts on my iPhone via the Podcasts app to listen to as I walk. I'm surprised at how motivated this makes me to get out walking and it really makes the time go way faster.
I've downloaded a range of TED talks and some local radio and I'm really happy with the walking and learning or laughing combination. If you download one hours worth of podcasts and walk until it is finished you should have completed your 4kms!
I'd love some tips on your favourite podcasts!
Happy walking!
Keep smiling
Dani
Oh well done! What a great idea. I hope you have lots of lovely fine weather to spur you on :)
ReplyDeleteThe weather was perfect last night, fingers crossed it continues!
DeleteI love this! I can absolutely tick this off the list. My hubby and I walk our dog just over 4ks every single day... without fail!! Yep we're the crazy ones who still walk her even when it's raining!! Great challenge. After doing it for the last 8 and a bit years, it's such a routine and I feel so yuck if I don't go! Love the feeling afterwards!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a pretty awesome achievment! I normally walk 3-4 times a week covering around 3-5kms, so just stepping it up a bit. I don't see me hitting an 8 year streak though!!
