In My Kitchen: July

So what's happening in my kitchen this month?

New Cake Tins

I can't resist when I find a new cake tin on special.  Lately I've acquired a bunt tin, fluted rectangular tart pan and mini tart and loaf tins. I've used the flan tin to make this fig tart and the mini quiche tins to make my cheat's banoffee pie. I'm still looking to use the bundt tin and mini loaf tin.

Cake decorations

I like to randomly pick up cake decorations and different cupcake cases along the way to create a bit of a stash. This way I usually have something appropriate for any occasion.

New homewares

I have a bit of a dream where I get around to finally putting some glass shelves in my cupboards and I devote one of them to my love of jugs.  Boy, I dream big sometimes! There is just something about jugs; they are multi-functional, colourful and just look so good.  I wish I had thought of collecting one from each place I've ever visited overseas.  Anyway, this one was reduced to $12, what a bargain!  And I found the bowl at Harris Scarfe for $3. Perfect for a hearty bowl of porridge in the morning.  I love this collection of homewares, I think it's called Claire's Kitchen,, now I'm just waiting for the large mixing bowl in the same colour to get reduced too!

New favourites

This soup cup is perfect for my winter soup obsession.  The sugar-free banana flavouring makes for an amazing banana smoothie, perfect for dessert.  Unfortunately I think they are discontinuing the banana flavour at my local Coles.

Random Aldi Finds

Aldi has middle aisles that stock items that appear randomly and disappear just as quickly. While following Celia's and Lizzy's discussion on cookware I saw that they were having a sale on cookware and other random cooking ingredients.  I debated about getting some cast iron pans but got these ingredients instead.  I'll have to make a Maggie Beer recipe with the verjuice won't I?  I'm trying to overcome a fear of gelatine and the saffron will be used in paella.

Love looking at what people have in their kitchen?  Check out more posts at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial.

Keep smiling
Dani

    1. Thanks Tandy. I think I'll start with a mini-banana bread and go from there.

  4. Oooh, I LOVE new baking tins! I have to resist buying them because there's nowhere left to store them anymore. And I could also end up with a dangerously large collection of jugs - I always find them so interesting, and end up with ones shaped like roosters and such. Great Aldi finds - it's quite the Aladdin's Cave sometimes, isn't it? :)

    1. Thanks Celia. An Aladdin's Cave is a great way to describe Aldi!

  5. All looks lots of fun. I love jugs too - I have just a few small ones but if I could I would collect gravy boats - there is something old fashioned about them that really appeals even though I just don't serve dinner that way. I don't think I have ever seen verjuice that isn't a Maggie Beer brand - I have used mine in risotto and also once when I didn't have enough sauerkraut left. And of course once I finished it I found a maggie beer recipe I wanted to try (an upside down tart with eggplant and other stuff). And all the new baking stuff looks like you will be doing some very pretty baking!

  6. Danielle, your glass-front cabinets are beautiful with their lighting -- hope your "glass shelf" dream comes true soon -- you have such pretty items to display! I especially like your rectangular tart pan... now you're making ME dream!
