Bedroom makeover on a budget

My birthday present from my hubby, mum and sister was money so I could do a makeover of my bedroom. I wanted to make it look a lot brighter and fresher and wanted to keep the budget around the $200 mark.  Here is my before pic - very neutral, very simple, but desperately in need of a face lift.  In fact this doona cover was given to us as part of our wedding present with bed back in 2006.

 

 

I needed to keep the original bed and bedside tables and not repaint.  So it was all about the linen and the bed side styling.

 

I decided to find a white doona cover that I could keep as a base next time I redecorated and brighten it up with European cushions and accessories.

European pillow cases from Adairs : $36 each on special
Koo quilt cover (queen) with 2 pillow cases: $40 on special at Spotlight
Blue and orange cushions from Kmart: $10 each
Long pillow: $25 on special at Spotlight
Throw: $39 on special at Adairs
Lamps: $40 at Target
Bird: $3 Kmart
Vases: I already had in the lounge room.

So I went just over budget but am pretty happy with my fresher and brighter room.  I've decided I like it better without the white pillow at the front, but otherwise I haven't changed anything else. Until winter when I think I'll go for a black and white theme...
